Main firmware update information

The TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E transceivers main firmware has been updated from Version 2.11 to Version 2.12 as follows.
We are offering the firmware updating program to the TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E owners.
You can update the firmware by connecting the TM-V71A/E or the TM-D710A/E to the PC by using an optional Programming Cable (PG-5G, or PG-5H Serial communications cable).
The firmware updating program is not applicable for the TM-D710GA/GE.

  1. When using the new accessory microphone (MC-62), microphone key presses may be falsely detected under certain conditions.

  1. Enables the European models TM-D710E and the TM-V71E (used with the RC-D710) to operate the KENWOOD SKY COMMAND SYSTEM II as well as the U.S.A. models TM-D710A and the TM-V71A (used with the RC-D710).

  1. When APRS(or PACKET) mode and EchoLink Sysop mode are activated simultaneously, checks the external data band PTT status (for EchoLink) until the internal data band (built-in TNC) transmission ends.(TM-D710A/E)
  The following symptom is revised.
  1. In Menu520 (SQC SOURCE), when [TX]/[BUSY or TX]/[SQL or TX] are selected, status of the non-external data band is not output.(TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E)

  The following features are updated.
  1. Adds ability to activate the APRS (or PACKET) mode and the EchoLink Sysop mode simultaneously (TM-D710A/E).
It enables the TM-D710A/E to operate as an APRS base station or a digipeater even while the TM-D710A/E's EchoLink node is working. For such operation, the TM-D710A/E's Internal Data Band [Menu No.529 (for PACKET), Menu No.601 (for APRS)] and External Data Band [Menu No.517(for EchoLink)] must be set differently.
  2. Adds [Menu No.630/631 : SmartBeaconing 1/2] (TM-D710A/E)
They are to set the TM-D710A/E's SmartBeaconing function's parameters.
  3. Improves Auto Brightness from "1up" to "2up" (TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E).
  4. Adds [Menu No.111 : Microphone Sensitivity] (TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E).
It enables the operator to set the microphone sensitivity without using the MCP-2A.
  5. Enables to program the following APRS functions to the microphone [PF1]~[PF4] keys.
[M.LIST], [S.LIST], [MSG.NEW], [REPLY], [POS], [P.MON], [BEACON], [DX], [WXi]
  * To enable the new functions 1) through 3) above on the TM-D710A/E correctly, please also update the Operation Panel firmware to Version 2.00. (And also the MCP-2A to Version.3.10)
  * For details of the new functions above, please refer to the In-depth Manual and the revised Instruction Manual.

  The following feature is updated.
  1. Enables access to the Weather Channel function even when APRS is activated.
(TM-D710A K-Type only)
  The following symptoms are revised.
  1. Scan function in the CTRL band stops when an APRS beacon is automatically transmitted in the other band.
(TM-D710A/E)
  2. When the optional VGS-1 is installed, TX/RX function might become unstable.
(Depends on the part value tolerance used in the VGS-1.)

  The following features are updated.
  1. Adds "EchoLink RX Monitor" function
   
* This function enables the speaker output to monitor the operating frequency's condition regardless of CTCSS or DCS mismatch in EchoLink Sysop mode operation.
* This function can only be set with the MCP-2A (Version 2.00 or later).
[Edit] [Menu] [Transmit / Receive] [EchoLink RX Monitor]
* To activate this function, set the parameter to "Busy Only".(Default is "CTCSS/DCS")
* This function works on the DATA band used for EchoLink Sysop mode operation.
* The received audio signal is output from the Data terminal's PR1 to a PC only when CTCSS or DCS matches.(Then the EchoLink icon  blinks)
  2. Enables "Connect by call" and "Query by call" functions using EchoLink Memory.
   
* After selecting an EchoLink Memory channel, press the microphone [C] key before pressing the Tuning control, to transmit the converted DTMF code of the EchoLink “Query by Call” function.
* After selecting an EchoLink Memory channel, press the microphone [0] [7] keys before pressing the Tuning control, to transmit the converted DTMF code of the EchoLink “Query by Call” function.("Query by node" is also available by pressing the microphone [0] [6] keys instead.)
  3. Firmware indication function.
   
* Press [PF1] + Power ON.
The radio unit's firmware version appears in the left side of the LCD display.
  The following symptoms are revised.
  1. High background noise during CW ID in Cross-band Repeater mode.(K-type for USA and Canada only)
  2. Voice ID with VGS-1 may not work correct in Cross-band Repeater mode.(K-type for USA and Canada only)
  3. Conversation recording with VGS-1 may not pause while SQ is closed.
  About the TM-D710A/E
  * The firmware Version 1.10 has been applied from the first production.
Applicable models/units :
The firmware updating program is applicable for following models/units.
TM-V71A/E : From S/NO.902xxxxx through S/NO.C0Bxxxxx approx.
TM-D710A/E (Discontinued) : Applicable for all units.
Notes : You can find the serial number imprinted on the main body bottom cover; it consists of an 8-digit number beginning with "S/NO."
: You can check the firmware version of your TM-V71A/E, TM-D710A/E by the following procedures.
 
1. With using the MCP-2A
  Select "Model" and then "Product Information" in the MCP-2A menu after connecting the transceiver with a PC by using the PG-5G or PG-5H PC interface cable.
2. Without using the MCP-2A (TM-V71A/E or TM-D710A/E standalone)
  Press [PF1] + Power ON.
*Ver.1.10 and later : The firmware version appears in the left side of the LCD display.
*Ver.1.00 : Nothing happens.
: The firmware updating program cannot be used for the Japanese models TM-V71/S, TM-D710/S.

  Faster than the recommended CPU for each OS.
3. System Memory (RAM)
  Larger than the recommended System Memory for each OS.
4. Free Hard Drive Space
  Larger than the recommended Free Hard Drive Space for each OS.

  Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
6. Peripheral Devices
 
A display with resolutions higher than VGA.(640 x 480)
A keyboard and a mouse, or other pointing devices.
An RS-232C interface.
An optional programming cable.(PG-5G, or PG-5H Serial communications cable)
 
Attention
If you do not want to lose user data, save the data using the Memory Control Program MCP-2A before updating the firmware and write the data back after updating the firmware.

Installation :
1. Extract the downloaded file "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_V212E.zip" into a designated folder.
In the designated folder, a folder labeled "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_V212E" will be created.
2. In the folder labeled "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_V212E", the firmware updating program "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_V212_e.exe" and "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_e.chm" are automatically created.
 
Updating:

Uninstalling :
Delete the folder labeled "TM-V71_TM-D710_Main_V212E" manually using the Explorer or an alternative method.
